Special Summer Adult Sunday School
This summer, beginning Sunday, June 7, St. Anne’s will offer a 9-week adult Sunday School class on Christian Hospitality. We will explore ancient and biblical sources that call Christians to a deep spiritual practice of welcoming, remembering our identity as aliens who are created to know the heart of a stranger. (Exodus 23:9)
We will study the evolution of hospitality through Christian history and confront our call to identify with Jesus as both needy guest and gracious host. We will have some honest conversations around the challenges that accompany an open heart to diversity and inclusion, and learn skills which will cultivate our willingness to see unrecognized boundaries that might change our image of community, making room for generosity and grace. And as always, we will have some fun, share some meals, and practice hospitality to each other.
We’ll use the book Making Room: Recovering Hospitality as a Christian Tradition by Christine D. Pohl. Ordering the book is not necessary for enjoying the class, but those who wish to go deeper will find it helpful.
