St. Anne’s Episcopal Church is a vibrant church with people of all ages and backgrounds. We are big enough to have plenty of ways to be involved, yet small enough that you don’t get lost in the crowd. We believe God is a God of love, and we welcome all people. About the Service
On Sundays you’ll be greeted by an usher who will hand you a bulletin, your guide to the service that day. Come in and make yourself at home. We keep silence in the church before worship, so feel free to kneel and pray or just sit and soak up the quiet.
Worship at St. Anne’s is traditional but joyful. Don’t worry about getting it “right.” Just enjoy the service at your own comfort level and know that anyone near you will be happy to guide you if you ask.
Childcare
Our nursery is located on the first floor of the Ministry Center and is open to infants through first graders. Our nursery is staffed by a childcare professional in combination with one or more screened and trained church volunteers. The nursery is always available during Sunday and Wednesday worship as well as most other occasions when the whole parish is invited to gather.
What to Wear
We are not stuffy at St. Anne’s. You’ll see people dressed in everything from blue jeans, to khaki shorts, to coat and tie.
About Communion
Worship at St. Anne’s almost always includes Communion, which is open to all baptized Christians regardless of age or denomination.
Look for guidance from the ushers.
At the appropriate time, an usher will direct the people in your pew to move into the line. If mobility is an issue, notify the usher that you would like Communion brought to you at your pew. Our clergy are happy to do so.
Proceed to the Communion rail.
Follow the people in front of you. Ushers will guide you to the rail.
Kneel or stand.
Most people kneel to receive Communion, but standing is also appropriate, especially if kneeling is difficult.
Receive the bread.
As the priest approaches with the bread, extend your hands with palms open and facing up. You may consume it immediately, or hold it and wait for it to be dipped in the wine.
Receive the wine.
The wine is served in a large chalice as a sign of unity. If you’ve already consumed the bread, assist the lay minister by holding the chalice at the base and guiding it to your lips to take a small sip. If you prefer not to drink directly from the chalice, you may offer your bread to the lay minister and allow them to dip it in the wine for you and place it on your tongue.
Return to your pew.
Return to your pew, kneel as you are able, and sing with the congregation or offer your silent prayers to God.
If you are unbaptized or prefer not to receive the bread or wine for any reason, cross your arms over your chest while at the rail. This will signify to the priest that you wish to receive a blessing instead.
