This is one of the holiest nights of the year, in which we commemorate Jesus’ institution of the Last Supper and the washing of his disciples’s feet. After Communion, the Altar is stripped bare in anticipation of Good Friday and the stripping of Christ before his crucifixion. For the rest of the night, volunteers keep vigil before the Blessed Sacrament in St. Anne’s historic chapel, staying awake with Christ as he asked his disciples to do in the Garden of Gethsemane.
